“排行榜”的翻译

谈到“排行榜”翻译，有这么一句话：这本书在畅销排行榜上名列前茅。

有人将其翻译为“This book ranks first on the ranking list of best-sellers.”。

然而，“list of best-sellers”自身已经有序列的意思，“ranking”作为形容词的意思则是“高级别的”，放在这里是多余的，与“rank first”意思重复，最好是删去。

因此，这句话翻译为“This book ranks first on the list of best-sellers.”，就足够了。

另外，“排行榜”可翻译成“list”，而“畅销书排行榜”则是“best-seller list, list of best-sellers, list of best-selling books”。

譬如，“The bookstore publishes a list of best sellers regularly.”（这家书店定期公布畅销书排行榜。）

“名列首位”则可用“to come first, to rank first, to be ranked first”来表达。
